Decommissioning is receiving increasing attention from the authorities, industrial gas companies and future property owners and occupants. This publication aims to provide guidance to EIGA members, specifically directors, facility managers, environmental specialists, design and engineering departments and technical managers on the current legislation and best practices that should be applied to decommissioning activities. Decommissioning includes dismantling, demolition and disposal of plant buildings and equipment, and dealing with the potential liabilities associated with the closure of part or all of the location.

The first principle of safety risk mitigation should be elimination, substitution and engineering controls. When exposure to hazards cannot be completely engineered out from the work area and tasks, and when safe work practices and other forms of administrative controls cannot provide sufficient additional protection, then a supplementary method of control is the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This publication provides guidance on a work process for selecting and using PPE at work. Selection tables are included which are general examples of PPE for protecting personnel against hazards that could cause harm. The publication is intended to provide guidance and examples in selection and use of PPE. It supplements other techniques for assessing and controlling risk and is intended for all involved in the selection of PPE.

This document provides an overview of the environmental auditing process. The key points for ensuring success of an environmental audit process are identified and references provided for further details on the principles of implementing environmental management systems. Changes to the previous edition relate to few sections being deleted, because these definitions are given in the audit guidelines, and relate to updating the annex to the latest version of ISO14001.

Directive 1999/92/EC, on minimum requirements for improving the safety and health protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres, also known as ATEX 137, defines the minimum requirements to protect workers from potentially explosive atmospheres.
