The purpose of this publication is to provide a summary of operating risks, recommendations and guidelines for the safe design and operations of various hydrogen (H2), carbon monoxide (CO) and syngas (H2 & CO) production facilities including carbon (CO2) capture, sometimes known as HyCO plants.

This publication is intended to provide general guidelines for the purification, compression and drying of acetylene. It includes recommendations for operational and maintenance safe practices to mitigate potential acetylene decomposition and other hazards related to the purification, compression and drying of acetylene.

Companies supplying acetylene will often have more than one grade or purity of acetylene. This publication provides specification requirements for gaseous acetylene. The user of the acetylene needs to decide what grade, purity or impurities are appropriate to their need. This publication does not attempt to recommend or establish end usage designations for specific types or grades of products. It is suggested that users requiring this kind of information contact individual acetylene gas suppliers.

This publication has been developed to give guidance on mechanical integrity (MI) of acetylene generator systems. A MI programme is intended to ensure that equipment does not fail in a way that causes or enhances a catastrophic release of highly hazardous chemicals.

This publication applies to HYCO plants and provides design and safeguards requirements of utility and instrument gas systems. It identifies the potential hazards resulting from the connections between gases, instrument gases, and the process.

This publication is intended to provide general guidelines for safe operation of acetylene generator systems. It is limited to acetylene generation systems using calcium carbide added to water, known as wet generation. The scope includes the carbide supply from receipt at site to entry into the generator, the generation of acetylene to the pipe leaving the generator, the control of temperature via water supply into the generator, the control of level via the discharge of lime out of the generator and gasholders and buffers. The scope does not include water utilities, lime handling after discharge from the generator, nor response to emergency or abnormal situations.

This publication addresses the integrity of industrial gas pipelines in the public domain including maintenance and operation as appropriate.

This publication aims to give recommendations for inspections of decommissioned cryogenic flat bottom tanks. It also aims to build a library of inspections available to EIGA members that will demonstrate the absence of aging mechanisms in this type of equipment and allow continued operation of the equipment without periodic internal inspection. This publication provides guidance for inspections when a cryogenic flat bottom tank is decommissioned.

Companies are required to take reasonable measures to prevent emergency situations such as fires or leaks from happening, but emergencies are still possible on any site. Every site should therefore have an emergency plan and the necessary resources in place: designated spaces, equipment and people organised to manage the potential emergencies to reduce harm to employees, the public and the environment or damage to facilities. This publication describes the key elements of a robust emergency management system to formally assure preparedness using an emergency plan.
