Registration for the EIGA Summer Summit 2025 is now open!

As you know, the Summer Summit combines the Annual General Meeting with the Award Ceremony.  We are happy to welcome you and your partner in Edinburgh this year.

Detailed information can be found on our Summer Summit Website.

It is highly recommended to register and book hotel and flights or trains as soon as possible (but no later than 15th March 2025), as end of May is the high season in Edinburgh, and we will have to release most of the hotel bedrooms in our pre-blocked booking mid-March.

Once you have registered, a preliminary registration confirmation will be sent by our Conference Secretariat eiga@destree.be. A final confirmation will be sent a few days before the event.

Please remember that a valid passport for visiting UK is required and as a visitor, you will have to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation. Please visit our event website for further details.

EIGA NEWS

Great achievement by WG7 MEDICAL GASES

The Union list of critical medicines supports the joint work of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European Commission and the Heads of Medicines Agencies in preventing issues with the supply and availability of medicines at European level. The list contains human medicines that the European Union has identified as critical to ensure the health of its citizens and take proactive measures to avoid medicine shortages.

This list contains human medicines whose continued supply is considered a priority in the EU. It helps healthcare systems function and avoid serious harm to patients.
Initially our medicinal gases were considered under this list. The risk of being included in this critical medicines list, is that our members would have to report stocks of each gas per package size throughout the European Union.

WG-7 prepared Shortage Prevention Plans (SPP) for our gases (Air, CO2 & mixtures, He & mixtures, Lung function gas mixtures, NO, N, N2O, O2, Xe): defining the security of supply and providing evidence that our industry can prevent shortages. Hence, WG-7 provided good arguments to not become part of the Union list of critical medicines in the future.

On 16th December 2024 the version 2 of the critical medicines list was published and none of our medicinal gases are included!

This is indeed a great achievement managed by the members of WG-7.

EIGA and 16 other industry associations representing the hydrogen value chain call for an urgent adjustment of the European hydrogen policy.

Doc 23.09/25 - Cylinders for Compressed and Liquefied Gases

(Revision of Doc 23.09/18)

Doc 26/25 - Safe Filling of Acetylene Cylinders Bundles and Battery Vehicles

(Revision of Doc 26/21)

This publication is intended to give the requirements for filling individual cylinders, bundles and battery vehicles containing different porous materials and different solvents. The publication is intended to supplement the existing standards by clarification of their safety philosophy and the method of implementation. It demonstrates the effects of the essential parameters, such as maximum acetylene content, necessary solvent content, acetylene/solvent ratio, acetylene filling tolerance, solvent filling tolerance, free volume in the cylinder, porosity of filler material.
The previous publication of this document covered the theoretical aspects of permissible charge. In this new version the scope has been extended to include operational aspects for filling.

Doc 26.1/25 - Acetylene Cylinder Pre-Fill Checks

The document gives guidance to the operator who is executing the pre-fill inspection of acetylene cylinders. It gives examples of possible defects found during this inspection.

Doc 94/25 - Environmental Impacts of Air Separation Units

(Revision of Doc 94/17)

This publication details the environmental impacts of air separation units (ASU) and gives guidelines on how to reduce the impacts.

Doc 258/25 - Guideline for Corporate Greenhouse Gas Emission Reporting by Industrial Gases Companies

(Harmonised publication)

This publication is a guideline for clear harmonised GHG reporting practices aligned in the domain of industrial gas operations.

TB 23/25 - Checklist of Compliance to New or Modified Requirements of EN ISO 7396-1:2016 Standard

TP 52/25 - Transporting Customers? Gases More Safely - Retail Staff

(EIGA Members' area)
(Revision of TP 52/17)

Every year many incidents occur during transportation of gas cylinders or cryogenic receptacles in inappropriate vehicles. Unfortunately, this frequently results in severe incidents. Many of these could have been avoided if basic safety rules had been followed. EIGA has developed a serious of publications aimed at helping customers to transport gases more safely in "non-dedicated" vehicles. This Training Package is intended to be used to train and raise awareness of retail centre staff on the hazards and precautions to be taken and advice to be given to customers, for gas cylinders. The presentation includes examples of potential incidents and also provides guidance on certain specific circumstances when they should refuse to supply the customer with product. This publication is part of the EIGA Campaign: Safe Transport of Gases or Dry Ice in "Non Dedicated" Vehicles.

TP 54/25 - Transporting Your Gases More Safely - Customers

(EIGA Members' area)
(Revision of TP 56/18)

The Training Package explains how tare weights are established and includes an example of how a tare weight is established.
The Training Package is intended for all personnel who are involved in specification and filling of acetylene cylinders.
