Doc. 172/19Combustion Safety for Steam Reformer Operation

This publication is intended to inform and guide on the procedures and practices fundamental to combustion safety in the operation of steam reformers and is intended as a baseline for safe reformer operation.

The publication covers operation, maintenance, and certain design aspects of steam reformers relative to the potential safety hazards of the combustion process inherent to these units.

Emphasis is placed on operational guidance and features such as furnace control philosophies, safety interlocks, and inspection routines, that provide safeguards against hazards.

Details of design, installation, and construction of steam reformers are not addressed.

The publication is intended for those involved in the design and operation of steam reformers.

This revision makes editorial changes along with a number of technical changes to reflect current practices.

The publication is part of the programme to develop Globally Harmonised publications amongst Regional Gas Associations.
