This publication addresses the use of aluminium-structured packing in oxygen distillation plants.
Many air separation plants use aluminium sieve trays in their distillation columns. Most air separation plants built after 1990 have used structured packing in place of trays in the distillation columns.
The low pressure drop and good mass transfer effectiveness of packing make packing attractive for some air separation applications, particularly for columns operating at near atmospheric pressure. Other materials that can be used in this service, such as brass, copper, or stainless steel, are not addressed in this publication.
The document is intended for those who are involved in any aspects relating to the design, engineering, construction, and operation of air separation plants that use aluminium structured packing.
