For smaller quantities, or where pipelines are impractical, industrial gases can be delivered in bulk by road, rail, or sea transport. Special cryogenic road tankers, rail wagons or containers are used to deliver liquefied gases into tanks located at the customers' premises; this is particularly relevant where liquefied gas is required for its refrigeration properties. In gaseous form, the products are contained in high-pressure tube trailers (multi-element gas containers) which can either be left at the customer site or can be used to recharge the customer storage system.

To supply in bulk or in cylinders, the European industrial gases industry operates 10,400 delivery vehicles, covering 530 million kilometres per year.
